I'm so excited to be sharing my Paris experience with ASOP readers! As you can imagine, Paris really is an incredible city. Like all great cities of the world, it has a uniqueness that you can feel immediately once you're in the middle of it all. It's difficult to describe, but to me it charms. The history, the architecture, the people, the art, the fashion, the Seine - even with all of this it doesn't overwhelm, it feels as if it's all there for you, quietly waiting for when you're ready to discover it. I've been before, briefly for four days last year. And while my total Paris count is only 6 days so far, I have to say that contrary to their reputation, Parisians are really quite lovely people. They are very sweet and although not many at all can speak English, they will typically work with you as best they can if you're struggling, which we do! But we try and hopefully we'll pick up more French as the weeks go by. During my first day we ('we' is my husband Kyle and my three year-old daughter Elle - I wonder if her name sounds funny to Parisians?) walked around our neighbourhood which is right near the Latin Quartier (a very good place to be) and just around the corner was the Pantheon! We are also only a couple minutes' walk from le Jardin du Luxembourg (properly pronounced 'Luxem-boor' in French) which is a very famous park with all kinds of wonderful things. I'll be reporting on that soon. I had my crêpes which I just can't get enough of, from a crêperie called 'Crêpes a Go Go' and also from one of two gorgeous patisseries near us. Oh, and can't do without the baguette and brie de Meaux! That's all it takes to make me happy. On Wednesday I will be going to Colette on Rue Saint-Honoré - that's one of the greatest shopping destinations in Paris for everything from fashion to gadgets. It's just so cool. Right now they've got Cacharel's re-edited collection of their 1970 Liberty print dresses (think easy, feminine, floral cotton) which they showed at Paris fashion week for spring/summer 09, to mark their 50th anniversary. They've been there since the 16th and it will run until the 28th - I just hope there's something left for me to see! Can't wait to tell you about it and show you! Jusqu' à la prochaine fois, mes amis (until next time, my friends!) |
Thanks for sharing!
