On Wednesday I went on a mission to find the ultra-cool fashion, art and gadget destination known as Colette, on rue Saint-Honoré. I missed it last time and there was no way it was getting by me this time around. However, what Google maps indicated as a 32 minute walk from my apartment was more like two hours, but there's no such thing as wasted time walking around Paris. It was a gorgeous day and I ended up near the Louvre which of course is quite touristy, but what is considered touristy in Paris would be a dream most anywhere else, as you will see in the photos. And alas, there was Colette! I wanted to see the re-edit they were featuring, and along with the dresses found some gorgeous totes, adorable hats, and the sweetest brooches by Anne-Marie Herckes for Cacharel, all in Liberty prints, of course. I snapped up one of the bags in lieu of a dress and also got an eyeful of the outfits on display in the main section - the best of the spring collections which included the acid lilac tweed and lace jacket from Luella and likely the most gorgeous skirt I've ever seen, a rosette covered jacket from Fendi, Mary Katrantzou's uniquely bold graphic dresses, and the pièce de résistance - that lurex striped tweed short-sleeved jacket from Marc Jacobs which was so stunning in person I couldn't stop touching it. The runway photos do it no justice (it was the first look, by the way). I also found out that Rodarte is actually pronounced Rodar-tay (funny, as it's French but there's no accent on the 'e') when asking when they'll be arriving (soon, they hope, soon!). I must see Rodarte in person to get my head around those magic, webby knits we saw for spring. I might even attempt to try something on if I can promise myself I won't get tangled up in a $2500 sweater! (Can you imagine? I now own a piece of Rodarte, but I'm broke and so is my sweater!) I will check back again in a few weeks. Next time, I've got some interesting shop window photos and also a great list of fashion design and art schools in Paris, including what differentiates them from one another and which will likely get you a placement with a Paris design house! Bonne nuit, mes petites! Denise xoxo |
